AAC lightweight brick is cellular concrete where the air bubbles are caused by a chemical reaction, ie when aluminum or aluminum powder paste expands as in the process of making bread when adding yeast to developing the dough. AAC light brick making material uses special sand namely Silica Sand for Light Brick Industry (> 95% SiO2) and must be ground to micro size.
Just as in making bread, the AAC expansion rate of the dough cannot be controlled properly so it will usually expand out of the mold. Therefore it must be cut to get the required dimensions. The relatively large air bubbles allow the AAC to be produced with a low density.
Size of Silica Sand Granules for Lightweight Brick Industry
The size of sand used for making light bricks is 30 mesh up or 30 Up. Sand is sent in bulk using a dump truck. The sand that is sent under conditions has been washed with a maximum moisture content of 5% in the sand.
